BECOME A PATIENT-PARTNER

What can you contribute as a patient-partner?

Patients bring a “specialist” perspective because of their unique experience and knowledge gained from living with an illness or condition, and also from their experience with treatments and the health care system. Patient involvement in research improves the quality of research and, as health care providers use evidence from research in their practice, it also improves the quality of care (https://cihr-irsc.gc.ca/e/documents/spor_framework-en.pdf).

How will you be involved?

As a volunteer, you decide how much time you want to give and what projects you want to participate in. You may be required to collaborate at different stages of the research: establishing research priorities, carrying out the research, recruiting participants, interpreting and sharing knowledge, etc.
